We are thankful for the emergency funding the Ontario government announced today as part of federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement. Richmond Hill will receive $4 million in Phase 1 municipal operating funding to help address financial pressures related to COVID-19, maintain critical services and protect our community. The Province has indicated additional funding will be available later this year.

The municipal operating funding is crucial to ensure the City continues to provide the services that make Richmond Hill a great place to live. In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the City took measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the Richmond Hill community. Over the past five months we closed facilities, cancelled programs and events and closed park amenities to help keep our residents safe. These closures and our gradual reopening have had a significant impact on the City’s finances.

The funding announced today will greatly contribute to our efforts to mitigate the increased costs and ensure the pandemic doesn’t result in significant tax increases for residents and businesses in the future. 

COVID-19 has also had a negative financial impact on residents and businesses. That’s why we’ve offered tax relief and we’re supporting the local economy with our Recover Richmond Hill Action Plan to ensure businesses thrive and jobs remain in our City.

This community has done a great job fighting COVID-19 and we must continue to do so, together. It is critical we continue to wear our masks, maintain physical distancing, wash our hands and do everything we can to stay safe and healthy while we adapt to a changed world.
