Richmond Hill – Today marks another significant milestone in bringing the subway to Richmond Hill. Metrolinx has released the Yonge North Subway Extension Environmental Project Report Addendum for public comment, following evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of the project.

The subway will undoubtedly bring extensive economic benefits to Richmond Hill and help shape our future as a vibrant, welcoming, connected community. This report is a step towards protecting our natural environment, as we realize those benefits. Even beyond that, it will help us identify opportunities to bring improvements to the local environment, as well as to introduce positive community features, such as new cycling and pedestrian connections.

The importance of the subway extension on Richmond Hill’s future cannot be overstated. While it may feel like we are still in the early stages, now is perhaps the most critical time for our community’s voices to be heard. I urge you to get informed, and get involved with the many public engagement opportunities presented through Metrolinx.

The City will continue to work closely with our partners at the Province, Metrolinx and York Region, to help the subway extension become a reality. But it’s only with your help that we will succeed in creating a strong economic, social and environmentally sound tomorrow for Richmond Hill.
