This year, Remembrance Day ceremonies were modified to ensure the safety of our veterans and the general public from COVID-19. While we won't have a parade or individual laying of the wreaths like we normally do, we still partnered with our local Royal Canadian Legion to commemorate the meaning of the day.

Like most things this year, Remembrance Day might feel different. What hasn’t changed is the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for our city and our country. These were men and women from all backgrounds who fought on our behalf for the life and freedoms we enjoy today.

As a city, we take pride in our diversity – it is one of the things I love most about Richmond Hill. Our inclusion and diversity continue to be a source of strength for our community and something we recognize and embrace wholeheartedly.

This feeling of community and this sense of pride is something we can all take part in this November and beyond. It’s what makes our City so great.

In the coming days, I encourage you to take a moment to pause and reflect. Remember all of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our community and our country in the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, Peacekeeping missions and in Afghanistan. Give thanks for their service and give thanks for our freedom.
