To select this lucky individual, Richmond Hill is hosting a Torchbearer Selfie Contest. Richmond Hill residents (13 and older) must submit a photo (selfie) displaying their Pan Am spirit, along with a 250-word summary describing why they would be the ideal community torchbearer. Submissions will be accepted via email and hard copy submissions will be accepted at all Richmond Hill community centres. Pan Am/Parapan Am will officially announce Richmond Hill’s winning community torchbearer in March. The selected individual will carry the torch for part of Richmond Hill’s leg of the relay.

The contest runs between Monday, December 8 and Friday, December 19. To enter and to learn more about the contest, applicants should visit RichmondHill.ca/PanAmTorchRelay.

“We can’t wait to be part of the Torch Relay and 2015 Pan Am Games excitement,” said Mayor Dave Barrow. “And we hope we’ll receive lots of applications for our Torchbearer Contest. Our community is full of fun and spirit!”

Three-thousand torchbearers will carry the flame through their communities on the torch’s 41-day journey to the Pan Am Games’ Official Opening. The Torch Relay begins on Saturday, May 30 and concludes on Friday, July 10 with the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony in Toronto.
