Richmond Hill pleased with the funding support from the Province
RICHMOND HILL – Today, the Province of Ontario announced that it will be providing more than $55 million to Metrolinx to work with transit partners to continue planning and design work on the proposed Yonge North Subway Extension.
“We are happy to see the funding commitment that is needed to move this project forward,” said Mayor Dave Barrow. “This is no longer just about design and concept. We are excited that the Yonge North Subway Extension to Richmond Hill is one step closer.”
The proposed Yonge North Subway Extension would extend the Yonge Subway Line from the existing Finch Station to Highway 7 in Richmond Hill, giving residents and commuters more transit options and helping to alleviate traffic congestion.
With direct connection to rapid transit services that span York Region, the Yonge North Subway Extension will seamlessly connect Richmond Hill with Toronto. The Richmond Hill Centre transit anchor will deliver more riders and ridership movement than any other anchor in the GTA apart from Union Station.
“This commitment from the Province supports our shovel ready position,” added Mayor Barrow. “We’re eager to work with key partners like Metrolinx, the Regional Municipality of York and York Region Rapid Transit Corporation along with the City of Toronto and the TTC. The Yonge North Subway Extension will keep people moving, enhance our economy and connect our communities, improving the quality of life for everyone.”
