Mayor David West’s 2024 State Of The City Address
Stronger Together- Building for Today and Tomorrow
RICHMOND HILL – On October 8, Mayor David West delivered his 2024 State of the City Address at the Richmond Hill Board of Trade Mayor’s Luncheon.
The address, titled “Stronger together – building for today and tomorrow” emphasized the City’s work, guided by Richmond Hill’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, which outlines the priorities for the City over the next three years.
The address provided an overview of the City’s progress and achievements, including the creation of David Dunlap Observatory Park, revitalization of Mill Pond and Bayview Hill Parks, the city’s progress on welcoming growth with the addition of the subway, and ushering in key plans like the Transportation Master Plan, 2024 Asset Management Plan, Traffic Safety and Operations Strategy, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy for the City.
The Mayor also acknowledged the urgency of the growing affordable housing crisis and the City’s bold actions to address it by developing policies and programs to expedite development and help create much-needed housing.
The Mayor is proud of the progress being made to committing to truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples as efforts continue to building ongoing relationships with our Treaty Partners, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
The Mayor highlighted the City’s environmental leadership and sustainable development, citing examples such as the United Nations University selecting Richmond Hill as the Canadian location for its Institute for Water, Environment and Health and Richmond Hill being named as the Urban Economy Forum’s first Frontrunner City in Canada.
In addition, the Mayor highlighted the City’s success in supporting a flourishing small business community, including the success of the City’s Small Business Enterprise Centre that has helped start, expand and sustain nearly 250 businesses across the City.
