The City of Richmond Hill is projected to continue experiencing population and employment growth. With this knowledge, the City has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) and Preliminary Design Study for the proposed Addison Street extension. The extension will be located between existing Addison Street and Weldrick Road West on the west side of Yonge Street. As shown in the adjacent Key Plan, the general study area is bounded by Harding Boulevard to the north, Weldrick Road West to the south, Kersey Crescent to the west and Yonge Street to the east. The City of Richmond Hill Official Plan (OP) has identified the proposed Addison Street extension with a 20 m right-of-way.
The Addison Street Extension will generally help establish the limits of the intensification boundary and provide separation and/or transition opportunities between the existing low-density neighbourhood in the west and the new development form that has been recently constructed, approved or planned along the Yonge Street corridor. Running parallel to Yonge Street, this new roadway will improve the road network by providing local transportation capacity, active transportation, access opportunities for new development, and a finer grid network.
This project is being carried out as a Schedule C project under the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (March 2023).
