The Province announced earlier today that it is moving Richmond Hill to the Grey-Lockdown level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Framework, effective Monday, December 14 along with the rest York Region. This difficult step is being taken to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

I recognize that this has not been an easy year and the pandemic is only adding to the stress of the holiday season. I can’t thank residents and businesses enough for stepping up over these past months and supporting one another. I know Richmond Hill has done a good job limiting the spread. Our individual and community efforts have made a difference and together we can continue to keep Richmond Hill safe.

Unfortunately we know the lockdown will further impact our business community. Thank you to all our residents for all the support you’ve shown our Richmond Hill businesses during the pandemic. Please continue this support for our local restaurants, shops and services throughout the holiday season.

As we look towards the new year, there is hope on the horizon. Until then, I encourage you to continue to do your part in the fight against COVID-19 by avoiding social gatherings, staying home as much as possible and limiting close contact to the people you live with.

I know this is particularly difficult during the holidays – I am also missing time spent with family and friends, and the many traditions that usually make the holidays so special.

This sacrifice is needed now so we can enjoy future holidays with friends, family and community.
