Lawn Watering Restrictions
Richmond Hill's Water Use Conservation By-law limits outdoor water use from June 15 to September 30. We use more water in the hot, dry summer months for outdoor water uses such as lawn watering and car washing. Saving water during this season helps us protect the environment and keeps our waste reserves from running low.
Under the By-law, houses are permitted to water on the following days during the summer months:
- Odd numbered houses may water on odd numbered days between midnight and 6 a.m. and between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., for a maximum of four hours
- Even numbered houses may water on even numbered days between midnight and 6 a.m. and between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., for a maximum of four hours

Exceptions to rules
There are some exceptions to Richmond Hill's water use rules, including:
- No outdoor water use at any time during total water use bans
- Newly laid grass can be watered at any time and on any day for one month
Anyone who does not follow our water use rules can be fined according to the Provincial Offences Act.
