Message from the Fire Chief
Since 1881, our dedicated members have been proudly serving our diverse community. Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services is a full-time, career department that proudly provides fire, medical and rescue services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Richmond Hill. We are committed to protecting the lives and property of our community through excellence in prevention, education, training and emergency response.
Through utilization of the three lines of defence (Public Education, Fire Safety Standards and Enforcement, and Emergency Response) we teach our community how to be fire safe, ensure facilities are meeting minimum Code requirements, and attend calls for assistance when the need arises.
Our department aims to educate the public to assist with their safety. While the responsibility to keep families safe within the home ultimately lies with each resident, we are here to make that easier. We are partners in your safety and work hand-in-hand with our residents to create a community where no one is hurt by fire. We are always available to provide advice and guidance on any fire safety or emergency preparedness questions or concerns you may have. Through practicing fire safety, having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, planning your escape and ensuring your home, business or workplace comply with Fire and Building codes you are doing your part.
Our emergency response services include communications, fire suppression, extrication and other rescue operations, emergency medical response, and many others. In the event of an emergency, I take pride in the capabilities of our highly skilled members. I am impressed on a daily basis with the professionalism, dedication, integrity, and resourcefulness of the members of our department and the commitment to the citizens, visitors, and businesses of our City. Our strength is truly in the people.
I invite you to move through the pages of our section and learn more about us, as well as learn how you can help keep yourself, your family and your neighbours safe. Together we hope to stop the emergency before it can begin.
