Private Property Storm Debris Yard Waste Disposal
Curbside collection (mid-April to early December): Smaller limbs and branches can be placed on the boulevard (not the road) for collection on your yard waste collection day. Bundle branches, sticks and twigs with twine (maximum length 1.2m/4ft and no branches may be larger than 10 cm in diameter). Visit the Yard Waste page for full curbside collection guidelines.
Waste depot drop off: Residents can drop off yard waste and debris at the Miller Bloomington Yard Waste Depot (1351 Bloomington Road East). Accepted material includes branches (no larger than 30cm in diameter and 1.8m in length), flowers, plants, leaves and shrubs. Visit york.ca/wastedepots for details and hours.
Contracted services: In the event that private yard waste disposal is not unfeasible through the methods described above, seek a professional tree care company for assistance.

Power outages
Alectra is responsible for hydro in Richmond Hill. For information on power outages, please visit their website www.alectrautilities.com, call them at 1-877-963-6900 (press 1) or follow them on Twitter @alectranews.
In the event of downed powerlines, stay at least 10 metres away (the length of a school bus), and call 9-1-1 immediately.
Power Outage Safety Tips
- If your power is out, make sure you turn off your oven/stove and unplug small appliances.
- Never leave lit candles unattended.
- Do not run fuel-fired appliances inside (propane and charcoal barbecues, generators, etc.)
- If your power is out, run your taps on low flow to keep water moving and help prevent your pipes from freezing.
Flooding
In order to prevent water pooling on the road, you can help us by ensuring that catch basins near your driveway are cleared to allow for drainage.
In the event of flooding on your private property, please call your insurance provider. If you are experiencing water in your basement due to a backup, exercise caution as the water may contain sewage.
