Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services (RHFES) staff work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help keep our community safe.

Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services is a full-time, career department that proudly provides fire, medical and rescue services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Richmond Hill. We are committed to protecting the lives and property of our community through excellence in prevention, education, training and emergency response.
Fire Prevention staff inspect institutional, industrial and commercial buildings during and after the construction phase to make sure fire safety standards are met.
Fire Prevention staff are also responsible for fire and life safety education. They run events, fire station tours and give presentations to schools, seniors and new residents. Fire Prevention staff and fire crews also visit homes to check for working smoke alarms.
RHFES is responsible for overseeing Richmond Hill’s Emergency Management Program and ensuring annual compliance under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. They provide annual training for the City’s Municipal Emergency Management Group, maintain the Emergency Operations Centre and represent the City at Regional and other stakeholder meetings.

Our staff maintain six fire stations strategically located throughout Richmond Hill. They also maintain vehicles and equipment.

Our fire service is growing. Since 2017, we hired 12 fire fighters, a fire inspector and an emergency management coordinator.
Fire training staff teach all new recruits and conduct entrance and promotion examinations. They also provide ongoing training for all Fire and Emergency Services staff.

The 2016 RHFES Master Plan guides the delivery of fire protection services in Richmond Hill over the next 10 years. It includes both short-term (five year) and long-term (10 year) strategies for the municipality, consistent with the fire master planning process outlined within the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management 'Shaping Fire-Safe Communities' initiative.
