Beverly Hills Condo Creative Space is a newly developed permittable space for arts and culture enthusiasts located at Unit 5, 9199 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill.

With just over 600 sq ft., this medium-sized space on the ground level of the Beverly Hills Condo boasts large windows that offer a wealth of natural light, a track hanging system, recessed lighting, two single unisex washrooms and a kitchenette equipped with a sink, fridge, microwave and plenty of cupboard storage space.

In addition, the facility is equipped with tables, chairs, and easels, making it an ideal studio space for creative professionals to hone their artistic practices.

The space is intended for arts, culture and heritage activities, including but not limited to:

  • Studio space rental
  • Individual and group art exhibitions or sales
  • Artifact or historic displays
  • Art lessons, clinics or workshops
  • Meeting space for arts and cultural groups
  • Craft shows or sales
  • Cultural heritage displays
  • Curatorial activations

Individual applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply for a permit to use the space. Group applicants must designate an individual who is at least 18 years of age to assume contractual responsibility for the rental.

Site information

The Beverly Hills Creative Space has a total square footage of 605 square feet and has a maximum Program Room capacity for 60 people with chairs or 48 people with tables and chairs.

Hours of operation

Permit holders may operate between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Equipment

Up to six tables and 12 stackable chairs are available onsite for use through the City.

Permit holders are welcomed and encouraged to bring in their own easels and display features to supplement. Electrical outlets can accommodate low voltage appliances and additional lighting, if needed.

Studio space rental

The space can comfortably fit up to four artists working, making it affordable for artists who choose to share the rental cost.

When utilizing the facility for studio space, the following artforms ARE permitted:

  • Drawing and Illustration (i.e. Pencil, Charcoal, Pastels, etc.)

  • Acrylic and Watercolor Painting

  • Textile Arts (i.e. Weaving, Knitting, Embroidery, etc.)

  • Sculpture (Hand Building, Clay, or Soft Materials)

  • Craft (i.e. Paper Crafts, Beading, Jewelry Making)

  • Wood Carving

  • Photography

  • Digital Art

  • Printmaking

If applicable, please dispose of any ‘dirty’ water in provided buckets, which will be properly disposed of by City staff.

Note, the following artforms requiring proper ventilation and/or specialized equipment are NOT permitted:

  • Oil Painting

  • Resin Art

  • Spray Painting

  • Encaustic Painting

  • Welding and Metalwork

  • Glasswork

Art exhibition space rental

If utilizing the facility as an art exhibition space, please be aware that the hanging system provided at the Beverly Hills Creative Space is the ONLY method that permit holders are permitted to use to hang/install art on the walls. Permit holders are NOT permitted to use thumbtacks, push pins, nails, screws, etc. to adhere artwork of any kind to the walls. Additional display methods can be used, such as standing easels, tabletop easels, rack displays, etc., which can be provided by the permit holder for use during their permit.

If utilizing the facility as an art exhibition space, receptions that meet site capacities may be hosted in the space in conjunction with the permit. Alcohol is NOT permitted at this location.

If utilizing the facility as an art exhibition space, permit holders are to consider the audience of the exhibition space. As Beverly Hills Creative Space is open to the public during your permit, the City reserves the right to exclude work displayed that may be deemed offensive or inappropriate.

Receptions

If utilizing the facility as an art exhibition space, permit holders can host their own reception within operating hours during their rental of the Beverly Hills Creative Space. Special Occasion Permits are not available at the Beverly Hills Creative Space and surrounding grounds, and alcohol is not permitted on site. The Municipal Alcohol Policy outlines the details. 
Security and insurance

Please note that the space is not staffed, therefore you will need someone from your group onsite during your opening hours to the public, if applicable.

The permit holder will receive both a key and alarm code to access the space. Extreme care and caution are to be taken while the key is in the permit holder’s care. The key is not to be given to any other individual and must remain in the possession of the permit holder for the duration of the permit. Lost/stolen keys must be reported immediately to City staff. A security deposit will be required. The space is ONLY to be accessed during the hours as outlined on the permit. City staff are available for inquiries for the duration of the permit.

Permit holders may be asked provide proof of liability insurance or purchase liability insurance from the City. It is strongly recommended that permit holders consider acquiring additional insurance for high value artwork, artifacts and objects of importance for the duration of the exhibit on City of Richmond Hill property.

Permit holders may store objects onsite only for the duration of the permit, at their own risk.

Parking
Parking for this space is available in surrounding areas, though limited directly onsite.
Signage
Please note that signage is restricted in this space. As per Condo rules and regulations, signage and promotional materials are not permitted to be affixed to the windows or displayed in any area surrounding the building.
