More in this Section...

April is Earth Month, a time to celebrate our natural environment and come together to protect it. We've got fun, interactive eco-themed events and initiatives for the whole family!

April 16 - Healthy Yards Plant & Garden Sale Begins
Create a beautiful, eco-friendly garden at a low cost! Starting April 16, Richmond Hill residents can pre-order native trees, shrubs, perennial wildflower kits, rain barrels and/or composters. The online sale runs until May 19 or while supplies last.
Visit the Healthy Yards page for more information.
April 17 - Fantastic Fish Workshop & Guided Walk (free)

Dive into the hidden world beneath the surface of Lake Wilcox! Join us for a family‑friendly guided walk as we explore the fascinating fish species that call Lake Wilcox—and the rest of southern Ontario—home. Early spring offers a unique glimpse into this freshwater ecosystem as we explore which species are active and how to identify them. Please note: this program is observational only; no fishing will take place.

Friday, April 17, 6:15-7:45 p.m.
Oak Ridges Community Centre
(guide and participants will to Lake Wilcox together)

Workshops

Rain Gardens 101 - 12:30 - 2 p.m.
Looking for a way to transform your yard this spring?

Rain gardens are outdoor spaces with a lot happening just below the surface. Their smart design absorbs excess rainwater and naturally filters it back into the soil, helping your yard and the environment.

Join Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and learn about their Climate Ready Homes program. Get inspired by vibrant, climate-smart rain garden designs and how to create the perfect rain garden for your property.

Workshop location: RHPL - Central Branch, Room A, 2nd floor

Creative Mending - 12:30 - 2 p.m.

Medicine Pouch Making - 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

This reflective, kid-friendly activity combines traditional knowledge, connection to the land and sustainability. In partnership with Miskwaadesi Studio.
