We welcome back the annual celebration of Culture Days! This national celebration, scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 16, seeks to eliminate barriers to access and participation of arts and culture while encouraging appreciation. During this month long event, the City will invites the community to participate in FREE “behind the scenes,” activities to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers at work.

Thursday, September 29, 2022 5 to 7:45 p.m. Featuring Camilo Restrepo and Fraser Melvin Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, Outdoor Plaza 5 to 6:15 p.m. - Fraser Melvin Fraser Melvin is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, arranger, composer, and bandleader. He plays guitar, lap steel, mandolin, ukulele, bass, keys, trombone, and sings. He has been performing in and around Toronto and Southern Ontario since 2006 with his own group, The Fraser Melvin Band, as well as numerous other bands, including Bad Luck Woman and Her Misfortunes, Sam Polley and The Old Tomorrows, and The Jenie Thai Band. With over 15-years experience in the music business, Fraser has performed at the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Tremblant International Blues Festival, and the Kitchener Blues Festival. He has opened for Johnny Winter, Jim Cuddy, and Chilliwack. 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. - Camilo Restrepo From mundane to boisterous to outright risqué, Camilo's soloist repertoire ranges from classic Robert Johnson takes to the more obscure predecessors of the genre while stopping to salute folk masters, such as Dave van Ronk and Doc Watson. Camilo's rendition of classic tunes are meticulously respectful of original recordings while inevitably conveying his personal sensitivities. |

Friday, September 30, 2022 7-9 p.m. Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts Dr. Brenda Wastasecoot exposes the impacts of the Residential School policy by telling the stories from a memory map of her childhood home in the 1960s. Register for this free event. Dr. Brenda Wastasecoot is Cree from Churchill, Manitoba. She is a mother, grandmother, and great-great Aunt of the Wastasecoot and Brightnose family. Their roots begin from the York Factory fur trading post, flowing south along the Hudson Bay railway to Winnipeg. Currently, Dr. Wastasecoot teaches at the University of Toronto, where she resides in Toronto. She consults with the Arts and Science Faculty members to better reflect the historic truth and to open doors to reconciliation. Dr. Wastasecoot’s doctoral dissertation is titled: “Showing and Telling the Story of Nikis: Arts Based Auto-ethnographic Journeying of a Cree Adult Educator.” |

During this month-long event, participants explore and discover cultural awareness in their local communities through visual arts, music, dance, theatre, architecture, heritage, film and video, literature, culinary arts and new media.
Culture is everywhere and is a part of every moment of our lives. We celebrate Culture Days to recognize the special place that arts and culture occupies in our lives, much like you would celebrate a birthday or an anniversary.
